Small town strife
I grew up in a town of just over 1,000 people in the far northwestern Texas Panhandle. The town is 100 miles from Lubbock and Amarillo, the two biggest cities anywhere remotely close. The people there, for the most part, are as good as gold. But, as you can imagine with a town this remote, feuds, however small, blossom because of the most minor of mishaps.
The following is a funny juxtaposition of exactly what happens in small town Texas. In the first part of the picture below you see a letter written to the editor of our local paper. Now, this paper covers four other small communities in addition to the one I grew up in and publishes only once per week. In the letter an extremely angry mother expresses her displeasure with a local principal and the principal's failure to get a name right at graduation. Among other highlights, the mother directly references that her son is a delinquent and that he's not the brightest bulb in the strand, though she goes great lenghts to place her child among the more intelligent.
The funniest part about the picture is that after this woman rants and complains about things people rant and complain about in small towns, we are gently jerked back to small town reality when we are reminded of an important church event. Have a look and enjoy the culture that molded my first 18 years on this earth.
